So... the weather did not completely cooperate for Portland Cars and Coffee and the Oppo meet up, with a bit of rain and showers. That said, there was still a decent turnout of vehicles and Opponauts.
In terms of cars, we had an International Scout and an MG, someone had a Chevrolet SS. There was also the Grand National and an Acura NSX. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! designed and had stickers made that were handed out.
We should start discussing the next Oppo meet up, this time up in the Seattle/Tacoma area. Maybe we should crash one of the Cars and Caffeine events at Griot's.

The want is so very strong. Was it as awesome in person as I see it in my mind? I know it has no manual but I still really dig it.

This was the sexiest car there. Pay no attention to the RS5 in the background...

Outside of the new Stingray, it's definitely one of the best looking Chevrolets available right now. It had a pretty good note when it started up, but the driver didn't really rev it.
I wouldn't mind having a spin or a lap around the track in one :)

Hehe... Glad you were able to make the trek down. Just too bad the weather could have been better and we could have had a better turnout in general (swap meet and other events that day also didn't help).

Thanks for the heads up! I would kill for a lap in one too! Someday. When I can afford a mortgage payment for a car! :)

Ah well, now it's your turn to come up here. I wonder if Griot's has a list of planned Caffeine and Gasoline events a few months out.

Yeah, it's only remarkable when we get a day without a single drop of rain ;)

Something about the shape of the Grand National just works for me.

Checking out Griot's site, it looks like they have a list of events, including C&G: http://www.griotsgarage.com/category/event…

I like the looks of the one in June... will definitely be there. I haven't gone for a while because it's been Porsche, Mustang, Monster Trucks...

I love the Grand National. The design is so "ungerman" and quintessentially American. There was a QOTD on Jalopnik once, asking about the best car to take on a road trip across Europe . This and a current generation Charger would be high on my list. Not because they are the best cars to eat up the miles on motorways or to do engaging drives on twisting roads, but because both are mastering the balancing act of being stealthy enough to glide through Europe without a fuzz - unlike let's say a '68 Charger or classic Mustang - while still being attention grabbing aliens. Even non-jalops - without seeing bagdes and knowing what car it is - could without any hesitation identify them as American cars. This odd schizophrenia appeals to me.

Sounds good. I'll have to see if I can pawn off my on-call duty for that weekend.

The first time I saw a GN, I though it was too bland and too squared off. The more and more I've seen them over the years, the more I liked them for not being all chromed out like other well-known American cars. Now, I do really like them for their understated styling and proportions.

Sigh. I would have been there if I hadn't got the time of the event wrong. I showed up too late. Had I made it on time, I'd have been ogling the GN and softly whimpering to myself.

I'da been there but it was raining and I had to work. BUT I will most definitely be down for crashing Griots as I'm there for just about every one, though probably not the Monster Truck one, but maybe, because Monster Trucks. Regardless, it should be during the sunny times, so everyone will have no excuse to not be there.

I can see that. In the 80's it's design wasn't a looker, for sure. But now that the boxy shapes on your roads are getting replaced, we all start to appreciate the older design more. I'd compare it with the W 123 over here. I wasn't interested in it since they were everywhere in the 80's and 90's. Now everytime I see a reasonably well maintained example or a tastefully modified (for example sportier rims and slightly lowered) one, I look at them in awe.
